You could visit the Dock Museum where Barrow Society of Artists have their 2025 Exhibition.

Usually on the third Friday of the Month we have Life Drawing Classes at Barrow Society of Artists, organised by Local Artist Jean Pritchard who is the Life Drawing Coordinator for the Society. We are very grateful to Jean for running these classes for us. As this month its Good Friday a reminder to members and guests its not on this month.
I thought I would take the opportunity to show art lovers what else is happening in the Art Scene in Barrow in Furness this Easter Weekend by doing a feature on Jean and show you a snapshot of other Animal Art in the Exhibition.
Jean Pritchard is an award-winning professional wildlife artist based in Cumbria. She studied Scientific and Technical Illustration at Blackpool Fylde College of Art and Design.
Initially Jean worked with watercolours but now prefers oils as a creative medium; this offers her the opportunity to produce works with bolder colours and photo realistic details.
Jean’s passion for the natural world is more than evident in her paintings. She has helped raise vital funds by kindly donating original paintings for organisations such as the World Owl Trust and Melbourne Zoo.
She has collectors worldwide, exhibits widely in the UK, and has been a finalist several times for the David Shepherd Wildlife Artist of the Year.

This is a rare chance to view Jean's original paintings in Barrow in Furness so don't miss the chance. Jean also runs zoom classes to teach her techniques to developing Artists and some of the entries for the display were completed on Jeans Zoom Classes or by Jeans Current or past Pupils. We are all in awe of Jean's ability and thankful for the valuable lessons we learned on her courses. See below some of the Art Exhibited by current and former pupils.
Animal artists are passionate about their art and Entries from many hobby and professional Animal and Pet Artists are in the Exhibition.
Below is a short feature on Sian Jeffreys from Jitterbug in Ulverston:

Sian Jeffreys spent her teenage years and early twenties singing, touring and recording in a London band before moving to the Lake District to teach History, Philosophy and English. Taking up painting in lockdown in Thailand, she retired early from teaching to develop and enjoy her art.
Sian works mainly in acrylics loving the immediacy of colour and the flexibility of cover this medium offers. Painting people and scenes from Southeast Asia and animals found in the South Lakes.
Currently exhibiting her ‘Jazz Greats’ series at the Hope and Anchor in Ulverston. Original prints in Jitterbug Gallery, Market St, Ulverston and Ulverston Art House Brogden St.

Animal Art doesn't stop at paintings we have free standing art in the Exhibition also. I will do a blog on our free standing exhibitions on another day. Because Animal Art is a topic that could be endless. A quick preview of a free standing exhibit to show you the excellence of this genre of art:

The Dock Museum is open from 11am to 4pm All weekend. It is closed Monday and Tuesday. Ask the Staff about purchasing art work or contacting the Artists.
